You're on the team

You are your child's most important teacher.

Parent and caregiver training is a formal part of every Terrapin ABA plan, not an add-on. We coach you in real moments at home, so progress keeps building after the session ends.

A formal part of every plan

Coaching that is written into the plan itself.

Every treatment plan we write includes caregiver goals as their own section, billed under CPT 97156. Those goals get the same structure as your child's: a baseline, clear mastery criteria, and a plan for using each skill across people and places.

We know real life gets in the way, so we plan around it. Coaching usually happens at the end of in-home sessions, and telehealth check-ins, evening times, and written handouts cover the gaps. We ask every family to plan on weekly involvement, because that is what makes the rest of the program hold.

  • Coaching built into regular session time
  • Telehealth check-ins and evening options
  • Plain-language handouts you can keep
Made for real families

Who this is for.

Newly diagnosed families

If the diagnosis is fresh and the acronyms are piling up, coaching starts with the basics. We explain what ABA is doing and why, in plain English.

Parents with full plates

Work schedules, siblings, long commutes. We fold coaching into session time you already have, with evenings and telehealth when that is easier.

Grandparents and caregivers

Anyone who spends real time with your child can join: grandparents, a nanny, an older sibling. Consistent adults help new skills stick.

How it works

What the coaching looks like.

1

Goals set with you

Your BCBA writes caregiver goals with you, each with a baseline and clear mastery criteria. You know exactly what you are working toward.

2

Watch, then try

Your team models a strategy during the in-home session, then hands it to you while they are still in the room to help.

3

Practice between visits

Handouts and telehealth check-ins keep things moving between sessions, with evening times for the busy weeks.

4

Take the lead

Over time the plan shifts from therapist-led to caregiver-led, with clear discharge criteria. Our programs are built to work themselves out of a job.

Insurance

Covered as part of your ABA benefit.

How coverage works

On your explanation of benefits, parent and caregiver training shows up as CPT code 97156. It sits inside the same ABA benefit as your child's direct sessions. We work with Maryland Medicaid, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, and most major commercial plans, and we verify your benefits for free, then explain what your plan covers in plain English before anything is scheduled. See the full list on our insurance page.

Questions, answered

What parents ask about coaching.

Caregiver goals are a formal section of every Terrapin ABA treatment plan, and we ask families to plan on weekly involvement. It is not homework for the sake of homework; the plan simply works better when the adults in your child's life know how to use it.
Most coaching happens during the last part of regular in-home sessions, so it never becomes one more appointment. We also offer telehealth check-ins and evening times, and we leave plain-language handouts you can share with anyone who cares for your child.
Yes, it is billed under CPT code 97156 as part of your child's ABA benefit. We work with Maryland Medicaid, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, and most major commercial plans, and we verify your benefits for free before anything starts.
Practical strategies for the moments that matter in your house: routines, transitions, communication, and how to respond when things get hard. Each caregiver goal has a baseline and clear mastery criteria, so you can see your own progress, not just your child's.
