Schools and Child Find
AACPS special education runs through the Division of Specialized Instruction and Early Intervention Services on Riva Road in Annapolis, (410) 222-5000. Preschool Child Find referrals for ages 3 to 5 go through Birth to Five Services at (410) 424-3260, and parents have a voice through the county's Special Education Citizens' Advisory Committee.
Birth to three
The Anne Arundel County Infants & Toddlers Program provides free early intervention before age three. The program line is (410) 222-6911, and referrals go through the county's single point of entry at (410) 424-3260. We often continue the work these services begin.
Getting a diagnosis
Kennedy Krieger's autism center, CASSI, schedules new evaluations at (888) 554-2080, and Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital's Autism Spectrum Center books appointments at (410) 578-5041. Both are Baltimore programs that see families from across the county.
Parent organizations
Pathfinders for Autism staffs a free statewide helpline at (443) 330-5341; a real person answers with autism-specific referrals. The Arc Central Chesapeake Region, (410) 269-1883, serves Anne Arundel County families with community supports.
Military families
Fort Meade's Exceptional Family Member Program office can be reached at (301) 677-5590. Navy families at NSA Annapolis and the Naval Academy have EFMP support through the Fleet & Family Support Center; Military OneSource, (800) 342-9647, can connect you. We serve TRICARE families under the Autism Care Demonstration.
Sensory-friendly outings
County library branches including Odenton, Severna Park, and Deale run sensory friendly storytimes for ages 0 to 5, with registration required. County Recreation & Parks offers adaptive programs at (410) 222-7313, and Port Discovery in Baltimore opens early for Sensory Friendly Sundays.
